Animation Explainer: Coaching Tools

A three-part series of animations explaining coaching techniques. The Client:
Reality Youth Project offer training for youth workers and organisations working with young people as well as providing resources to help with that youth-work.
The Brief:
The client was putting together a new trainign program to offer to those looking to coach and mentor young people. They asked me to create 3 bespoke animation explainers on 3 different coaching techniques. They were aimed at adults but the client still wanted them to be bright, fun and engaging to make the information about the techniques understandable and memorable.
The Project:
The client wrote the script for each of the animations but I also started off researching the techniques each video focused on as this helped me to fully understand the subject matter and therefore enable me to best visualise it through animation.
The next thing was to send over a few examples to the client to fully understand the style of aniamtion they were looking for. This done I began to curate colour pallets for each video which allowed each of the 3 animations to be unique while maintaining a synergy between the series.
On this project, the client had asked me to source someone to do the voice over, this varies with projects, sometimes clients have someone in mind to do the recording, sometimes I source them myself, I will always offer to do the audio recording using my own equipment to ensure the best audio quality, and this is one of the first things to be done for an animation project. The audio recorded, I set about sourcing and creating the graphics, and storyboarding each of the 3 animations.

The level of communication with clients varies per project; Some clients have a very specific vision and like regular updates and opportunities to provide feedback, others are happy to allow me to operate with creative direction on the project and will only give feedback at the end. I am always willing to tailor my workflow and services to meet the clients needs.
The Feedback:
The client was very happy with the animation explainers and started using them in their training program straight away and they commissioned me again later that year to work with them on another project.
